Day 275 Hongsa – Luang Prabang (Laos) / motorbike GS Dakar RTW overland adventure traveller

6th January 2015
Leave 10.30am
Miles rode 126 (202km)

The plan was to leave at 9am but after a coffee and getting petrol & cash the leave time was deferred. I went to the ATM and it gave me the usual option of how much to withdraw and it offered me 1,000,000! (That’s a million KIP) I had to withdraw it, it was only £81

Ridding the motorbike was perfect today, rural Laos is beautiful, I took a back road for the first 80 miles through the jungle passing villages that can’t have changed much in hundreds of years, wooden houses smiling people, no industry, nothing commercial just the land. As I passed the villages all of the kids ran out waving. No tourists, mountains, sun and wonderful people.

I crossed The Mekong river for the first time at 1pm.

Luang Prabang is so chilled out, a town on the banks of the Mekong River, I found a traditional guesthouse and was made to feel very welcome, it was the owners 21st birthday and after seeing the town I returned to a traditional Laos party, everyone was singing and dancing.
