Days 285 & 286 Angor Wat (Cambodia) / motorbike GS Dakar RTW overland adventure traveller

Left 2.45pm
16th & 17th January 2015
Miles rode 20 (32km)

After a couple of lazy mornings I eventually went back to Angkor Wat. Today I went to Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider was filmed here) which has been largely left for nature to take over, trees have grown over and around the ruined temple giving a magical ancient feel. There has been a little restoration work which is excellent however, people are allowed to roam everywhere which is great but the very occasional person thinks it’s ok to climb everywhere. I’m not sure the balance works.

Having my motorbike here is perfect, once I have the entry pass I can ride freely around the whole whole ‘Angkor Wat Archeological Park’ (500 acres) and explore freely at my pace whilst most tourists are dependant on the coach stopping only at the main temples. The moat around Angkor Wat temple alone is 5.5km around.
