Glen loves his bikes and is a mechanic so a day of sorting my bike out before we headed out to see Brisbane by night. I need a new bike chain but that will have to wait until Sydney (1,000km away) other than that everything is ready to go.
We took Glens massive Land Cruiser and went into Brisbane, what a great way to see this magnificent city by night, the Land Cruiser is so big, siting above the other traffic looking through the huge windows the Brisbane skyline really is very impressive. The Brisbane River which I’m told by day is dull and brown by night looks fantastic and as impressive as any river in any other major city of the world. The lights on the many skyscrapers make the city look magical.
We walked for at least a kilometre along the lovely South Bank with the river to the north and parks, restaurants and people having a great time to the south. There was an Asian Food Market on and the South Bank was vibrant with people of all ages enjoying themselves. A night in modern, trendy Brisbane is as good as anywhere in the world.
I’m told Brisbane by day with the brown coloured river is not so impressive. When I came into the city the previous day I was looking forward to riding through the centre but a massive underground system of road tunnels wisks you under and past the city rushing you from northern Brisbane suburbia to southern Brisbane suburbia. Now I’ve fallen in love with Brisbane by night the last thing I want is to see it by day.
Sometimes it’s best to keep beautiful thoughts and not dilute them with reality.
