Day 5 – 11th April 2014 leave 9.30am Miles rode 253 Silvaplana – Venice

The roads in the Swiss Alps are amazing. I’ve never been through so many tunnels and around so many bends.

As I entered Italy the road deteriorated automatically, I stopped before doing the Stelvio Pass and I felt the heat for the first time, insects were flying about, welcome to spring. As I headed up to the Stelvio Pass the road was blocked off as it was impassable due to snow (I didn’t know it wasn’t open this early in the year) at the same time two German guys turned up and we chatted and ended up riding away for the day together, it was good to ride with someone for a change.

It’s all about the people.

I booked into a hostel and headed off on the bus to Venice. It felt like a set from Disneyland where all of the people had a partner and were in love doing romantic stuff. I was on my own and couldn’t be bothered to engage in sightseeing so found a bar full of locals, I stayed there drinking and chatting with them and went back having not really seen Venice at all, I’m good at finding bars with locals and not so good at sustaining relationships, Ha Ha…
