Rwanda

Rwanda

I took the remote western border from Uganda into Rwanda, high up in the mountains. For the first time in a while I was riding in heavy rain. The border crossing took about an hour, I was soaking wet! Shortly after I stopped for a coffee and waited for the rain to stop, it didn’t! It did subside after an hour, so I decided to head south to Kigali, the capital city.

The road was perfect tarmac, the verges were litter free and well kept! Not what I expected in Africa. For the following hour I rode around the mountains heading south. The riding was sublime, with scenery to match. Wow…

I Kigali, I stayed in a hostel for a few days. The owner was English and the clientele was a combination of locals, travellers and NGO workers.

Rwanda doesn’t feel like the other countries I’ve travelled in Africa, it’s had such investment since the genocide in the 1990’s. Kigali is a very clean city in the mountainous jungle. Whilst I found my time here interesting, I wanted to be exploring the more rugged, Africa that had been in my mind. I only stayed a few days and headed into Tanzania.
