TEAM COACHING

Team Coach for Essex & Beyond

What is Team Coaching?

Teams have a common purpose, and often goals that they strive to achieve. The team members have various skills which they are often jointly responsible for. With the right coach, a team can become more than the sum of its parts and flourish.

My team coaching improves your team’s sense of shared purpose and performance, by unlocking the team’s potential. I create an environment conducive to collective learning, which facilitates an authentic reflective dialogue. The team explores their dynamics, organisational values, ensuring alignment with the team’s purpose, gaining clarity regarding aims and objectives, and understanding what success looks like, whist retaining their personal authenticity.

Team coaching works with the team as a system as opposed to a collection of individuals, which builds trust and meaningful collaborations. Understanding the complexity of hierarchy and dynamics improves working relationships and increases performance. The team starts ‘working as a team’, culminating in team members routinely putting the team priorities ahead of their own personal priorities.

Team coaching can be an intensive and effective intervention in the pursuit of shared objectives and alignment. Initially we define where the team is, where it needs to be and the movement that is required. We establish the team focus, working on individual and team strengths, not looking for obvious ‘problem solving’ solutions.

My philosophy to team coaching is to use ‘appreciative inquiry’, a strength based positive approach to team development and organisational change. Appreciative inquiry recognises the best in people and organisations by affirming historical and current strengths, successes and potentials, which encourages people and organisations towards a personal or joint destiny.

Why Dan?

Having spent most of my life as a member of various teams, and having spent twenty years recruiting, training and managing teams, I understand why you are considering team coaching. When a team functions well, both performance and wellbeing work in tandem perpetuating performance, surpassing expectations. I created and managed a number of very successful high performing teams. I now want to help you create the same.

“When you lead a sales team in a familiar sector it can be useful to bring in an external coach who is new to the market place. This is how I came to be introduced to Dan and the coaching that followed was hugely effective.
Dan was able to turn a very experienced eye on both individuals and processes. The one to one sales coaching and team coaching sessions were extremely beneficial, both sales and morale is on the up. Highly recommended.”

Why Dan?

I left a successful corporate career behind to become a life and business coach, improve the quality of my life and help you. I feel all of my life experiences have funnelled me towards becoming a coach.

Coaching is a powerful conversational intervention where I support you with the change you desire. As a coaching psychologist I use theoretically grounded and scientifically validated techniques to help you change your mindset or reach your goals in your personal, business and adventure life.

You may ponder on what type of coach you want to work with: life coach, adventure travel coach, career coach, business coach, personal development coach, confidence coach… I could go on! I pondered on what type of coaching I could offer; what type of coach am I?

I believe the efficacy and credibility a coach has is dependent on the expertise (skill & knowledge), experience and connection one has. Coaching is an unregulated industry –  anyone can start coaching immediately. So how can you determine the level of expertise, experience and connection a coach has? A little research will give you some of the answers; their biography and social media will give you an indication about what life experiences they have had, their qualifications inform you about their skill and knowledge level, and their accreditations and organisation memberships inform you how long they have been coaching and their experience in particular fields. A coach can have years of experience and expertise. However, if you do not have a great connection with your coach, forget it! How you feel about your coach and what you perceive they feel about you is a prerequisite to you achieving the change you desire. Establishing the quality of the connection between you and your coach is easy, you have to meet up, either face to face or online. This is the very essence of why I suggest we meet for a free initial meeting. Only after this can you decide if I am the coach for you.

Looking back, I was exactly where you are now, I had dreams, I wanted progression, I wanted more for myself and my kids. I know what it feels like to want more and realise that progress is slow or non-existent, at times it felt like I was going backwards! The first thing I did was to define what I wanted, then I created a plan of how to achieve it. I followed my plan, with small steps, but always going in the right direction. I enjoyed both the present and developing my future. That started over 20 years ago.

When I decided ‘enough was enough’, and I wanted to be happier and more fulfilled, ‘personal growth, life coaching, SMART goals, authentic behaviour and how to use my strengths to succeed’ wasn’t in my vocabulary. I was alone on my journey.

I left a successful corporate career behind to fulfil my potential and improve the quality of my life. Now, having studied positive psychology and coaching psychology  for many years, I recognise my behaviours over the last few decades were ideal for achieving forward movement in my personal and business life. However, it took me many years languishing in my dreams before I started my journey.

You don’t have to be alone on your journey.

Read my bio, and check out my social media where you can read about my experience, successes and personal development. I have started businesses and a charity, worked for corporations and travelled to over 80 countries around the world, and I am a very proud father of two amazing young adults.

I have found a vocation I really love, and my philosophy to coaching is simple; I want to be the best coach I can be for you, and I achieve this by using my expertise, experience and ability to effectively connect with you to help unlock your potential. My intention is to help you flourish, achieving sustainable forward movement towards a change in your mindset and / or achieving your goal(s).

The psychologist Carl Rogers really inspired me. He had a humanistic perspective to psychology and developed the person-centred approach. This means in my practice I have a holistic approach and focus on your self-awareness and thoughtful actions. I believe everyone is individual, has free will and is motivated to achieve their potential and self-actualise (where your personal potential is fully realised). I believe that by focusing on your strengths you can achieve your goal(s) and flourish.

I have worked with both individuals and organisations in Essex, Cambridge & London. You can read testimonials from people I have helped and what they say about their experience of my coaching

I have always helped people and experienced kindness wherever I have travelled throughout the world. However, it was whilst travelling on my Destination Unknown trip that I realised I wanted to focus on helping people. As soon as I returned home, I co-founded Cool to be Kind in Essex.

My interest in people then led me to study psychology, where I discovered the humanistic approach and then positive psychology, which focuses on both individual and societal wellbeing.
