The Countryside of Myanmar
This film was made by Kristjan Gislason from Iceland. Kristjan was one of 10 riders who I joined riding across Myanmar in early November 2014. I love this film Kristjan. Kristjan’s text; Eleven motorcyclists from six countries found each other through the Internet and decided to travel through Myanmar together, on their way to South-East […]

Day 219 – 11th November 2014 Leave 8.15am Miles rode 212 Ban Khong Wilai – Bangkok
Kristjan and I rode into Bangkok and said goodbye. Along the way I was amazed at how many new factories there were, Thailand feels so modern and ‘going places’. Rob from England who lives here welcomed me to Bangkok before I checked into a central hotel and sampled a local beer or two.
Day 218 – 10th November 2014 Leave 11.30am Miles rode 141 Mae Sot – Ban Khong Wilai (Thailand)
I had mixed feelings as I left the group today. I have enjoyed my time with everyone but was also looking forward to solo riding and more than that, seeing my daughter in Bangkok. Kristjan and I headed towards Bangkok but as neither of us were in a rush we stopped early and enjoyed a […]
Myanmar
Myanmar people are beautiful, continually smile and a pleasure to be in the company of. It’s all about the people. Myanmar is 85% Buddhist 7% Muslim & 7% Christian, the North is rural and agriculture and subsistence seems to still be the way of life but the surge of tourism is evident and I’m sure […]
Pakistan – Baltistan and Karakoram Highway – KKH video . . .
Day 217 – 9th November 2014 Leave 7am Miles rode 185 Kyaikhto – Mae Sot
It was the last day in Burma today and I was sad to be leaving. I had hoped to leave the group a day ago and stay in the country on my own for a few more days but I was told there is fighting between local tribes on the road to Myawaddy and the […]
Day 216 – 8th November 2014 Leave 7am Miles rode 116 Yangon – Kyaikhto
Riding in a group can be amazing when you are all working together and everyone feels part of a tight team, it’s even more amazing when riding a bike on the other side of the world. For the last few days I haven’t felt like part of a team. The team has fragmented into small […]
Day 215 – 7th November 2014 Yangon
Tourist day in Yangon. Yangon was the capital of Myanmar until 2005 when Naypyidaw became the capital. Yangon is a big city with 7,000,000 people. We couldn’t take our bikes into the city as in 2000 a motorcyclist shot a Military General and now the Generals live in fear of assassination, this feels strange as […]
Day 214 – 6th November 2014 Leave 8am Miles rode 230 Naypyidaw – Yangon
Tropical Rain! Yangon was the Capitol of Myanmar until 2005 when Naypyidaw became the Capitol. Like so many new cities Naypyidaw has new 4 lane roads with no traffic and new buildings everywhere, hotels, museums and government buildings but no people so we rode out of the city in the rain alone! It was a […]
Day 213 – 5th November 2014 Leave 8am Miles rode 177 Nyaung Shwe – Pyinmana
An easy days ridding on good roads. Everyday we stop for lunch and again we were not disappointed, the food everywhere in Myanmar has been top quality and the variety of dishes at every meal is amazing. On arriving at the hotel there were 10 girls waiting to present us flowers, wow, what a welcome.
Day 212 – 4th November 2014 Nyaung Shwe
Another day playing tourist. We spent the day being taken around Inle lake in a traditional long, narrow boat. The lake is massive and we powered through the waterway with ease passing fishermen who managed to work the nets with their hands and row the boat with one leg, incredible skill. The wetlands around were […]
